How Are You Today

Hey there! How are you today?
 
It’s #ThinkingThursday and I’ve been reflecting on our cultural tradition of exchanging pleasantries 🤔
 
How do you usually answer this question?
With a ‘fine’?
 
I’ve heard the acronym is F’d up, Insecure, Neurotic and Empty 😜
 
Or Feelings Inside Not Expressed. Sound familiar?
 
‘Good’, or ‘OK’ can be honest 🙏
 
I feel this is a nuanced conversation, between knowing who you’re with, perhaps how much time you feel you have ☯️
 
OR is it a matter of being brutally honest, in contrast to authentic awareness 🤔
 
Let’s expand, shall we?
 
Some people have expressed to me they feel their audience may not care, and frankly this can be true.
 
People who carry a lot of trauma in their bodies often don’t have bandwidth to consider others’ emotions, because they are likely disassociated from their own 🙃
 
They may even try to tear you down if they perceive you to be too high 🙁
 
Non-judgemental, compassionate people want to hear your genuine experience, to witness when you’re down, yet also celebrate your highs 💞 The right community is priceless 🎉
 
Can you honestly admit when you’re down? Be with your authentic emotions, discern and name them in the midst of an inner storm ⛈️
 
Are you comfortable sharing them?
 
Can you be honest and admit when you’re stuck?
 
Do you dwell in the darkness because it’s been an effective way of getting attention and energy from others? 🌫️
 
Or can you choose to look for the silver lining of the storm clouds, as much as you’re still within it? 🌦️
 
This is a journey of developing the solution of #EmotionalIntelligence, to claim our feelings as a personal strength, even in the midst of darkness 🌈
 
Now there’s the situation, do you feel you can share when things are genuinely going well?
 
Or do you minimize your experience?
 
Personally, I feel in this culture that heart-centred people often dim their light for the perceived comfort of others 😔
 
Or as a defence mechanism, to avoid those who may toxically tear us down from disinterest, jealousy, or contempt 😔
 
I’m overcoming this tendency to hold myself back, and begun to more freely share how I’m doing and being, with enthusiasm and authenticity 💖
 
Still depending on who I’m speaking with and when, but less as a matter of habit and more with courage I grow 🌟
 
Some people have even thanked me for sharing my genuine tales of bravery and fulfillment, in a world that can all too often feel bleak and oppressive 🙏
 
So I say, SPARKLE AWAY ✨
 
BE REAL, not perfect 💗
